This forest school for under fives has been running since 2013 and it has gone from strength to strength. Kids get their hands dirty building dens, climbing trees, painting, modeling in clay, looking for leaves, staring at insects and playing with mud. They get very very dirty and they take nice long naps afterwards.
The very first session we attended, leader Hugh Dames read The Gruffalo and then the kids built a logpile house, a stream, a treetop house and a lake. Some kids were making a mouse out of clay while others painted pictures of the Gruffalo. It was magic.
Eurilla forest school runs on Monday mornings at Mayow Park in Sydenham and there are school holiday sessions at Hilly Fields in Brockley. Eurilla also works with nurseries and primary schools to implement a forest school provision.
